The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) will today (Monday 9 November 2009) present its report on ‘The Situation of Roma EU Citizens Moving to and Settling in Other EU Member States’. The report shows that many Roma EU citizens settling in another Member State in search of better conditions continue to experience racism, discrimination and exclusion.

The FRA will launch its report on the occasion of an international conference organised jointly by the FRA, the Council of Europe and the OSCE on the 9 and 10 November in Vienna .

FRA Director Morten Kjaerum: “In the European Union, many Roma EU citizens settling in another Member State in search of better conditions continue to experience racism, discrimination and exclusion. Of particular concern are reports of hate-motivated incidents against Roma, and racist rhetoric reported in a number of States. The EU and its Member States need to adopt targeted policies on integrated rights- and equality-based standards promoting social cohesion.”
